1. Why play ASA Softball?

ASA Softball is the largest and fastest growing girls softball association in the USA.  It offers girls the opportunity to play softball from t-ball age to 18 years old and beyond all under one organization.  This continuity increases the number of girls who play t-ball / softball throughout their lifetimes.

2. How do you "pick" teams

This is all about fun at the recreational level.   There are no "tryouts".  You can choose to play with your friends and / or for a specific coach.  If you do not know what team or coach to play for, TYSA will combine players together based on school and age.  Additionally you will be able to keep your teams together from year to year.  It is all about having fun and continuing to play softball.  Competitive team coaches choose their players through a tryout and evaluation process that occurs in August.

3. What age groups are there

T-ball   (girls only) Ages 5 and 6
  8U     Ages 7 and 8
10U     Ages 9 and 10
12U     Ages 11 and 12
14U     Ages 13 and 14
16U     Ages 15 and 16
18U     Ages 17 and 18

Starting at 10U there are three levels of play A,B,C.  A and B are considered competitive while C is  considered recreational.  16U and 18U have only A and B levels of play.  For more information on each level of play see our team formation policy.

4. How much does it cost?

The cost is $85 per player no matter the level for recreational play.  Family maximum is $195.  The registration fee includes a uniform that the player will get to keep.  Competitive teams set their own playing fees.

5. What is the length of the season

Recreational play (t-ball through 14) will begin the first part of April and end the first part of June.  Play will be during the week.  We will be part of a recreational league with Wilsonville, West Linn, Lake Oswego and others.

Competitive teams generally require a greater time commitment.  Play usually begins in April and concludes in July or early August.  Each team sets their own schedule. See each competitive teams web page or website for more information

 6.  When are practices and games

Recreational team games are typically one game during the weekday and one game on Saturdays.  Recreational team practices are typically two-times per week until games begin and then they may be reduced based on time and field availability.  Competitive tournament team practice and games all vary.

7. What if I want to volunteer

We are always looking for parent volunteers to help provide the best possible experience to our players.  Please contact us if you are interested in coaching or volunteering.  We will put you to work.

8. What is the difference between recreational and competitive teams

See our team formation policy.

9. Are you a Non-Profit organization

Yes we are a non-profit organization and carry a 501(C)(3) designation with the IRS.  This allows our sponsors to deduct their donations / sponsorship.

10. What about field conditions

If you have noticed as we have that fields around Tualatin are in need of a lot of work. We are committed to bringing the fields we play on back to playing condition.  This is a must as safety and the overall softball experience hinges on the fields condition.  This is our single largest budgeted item - field maintenance.
